Privacy Policy
The short version: the app collects nothing, the website tracks nothing, and payments are handled by Polar.
Last updated: 16 September 2026
The app
TapMac runs entirely on your Mac. It reads the accelerometer built into Apple silicon MacBooks to detect taps on the chassis. It does not use the microphone, does not log keys, does not read your files, and contains no analytics or telemetry of any kind. Your tap map and preferences are stored locally in macOS user defaults (app.tapmac) and never leave the machine. The app’s log file is written to your own Mac and is yours to read or delete.
License activation — the one network call
When you enter your license key, the app sends that key and your Mac’s computer name (as an activation label) to Polar, the payment platform, to confirm the key is valid. The result is cached on your Mac so the app keeps working offline. That is the only network request the app ever makes. Remove the license and the cached record is deleted.
Purchases
Purchases are processed by Polar as the merchant of record. Polar collects your email address and payment details to complete the sale and to email you the license key; I never see your card number. Polar’s handling of that data is covered by the Polar privacy policy. I receive the order details (name, email, order reference) needed to issue and support your license, and use them for nothing else — no marketing lists, no resale, no sharing.
This website
tapmac.pages.dev is a static site served by Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts. Cloudflare keeps standard, short-lived request logs to operate the service, as described in the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Your data, your call
To see or delete the purchase data Polar holds, use your Polar purchases page or contact me and I will handle it. Uninstalling TapMac is dragging it to the Trash; defaults delete app.tapmac forgets every setting.
